About Me: Nancy J. Freehafer

I was born in Abington, PA. My father was in the air force about that time, so the family relocated to Kansas when I was about 1 year old. A couple of years later, his service ended, and my family relocated to a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. I grew up in that area. I went to college at Wooster, Ohio and graduated with a B.A. in Sociology. After college, I relocated to New Jersey, then Philadelphia, PA. In 1985, I came to North Carolina, which is where I currently live with two dogs and four cats.

Until January 2006, I worked for a large software development firm. I held positions as a software support specialist, a technical writer, a technical editor, and a quality assurance specialist. Through my employment with this company, I gained a good deal of experience developing content for the Web, and I learned much about markup languages, Web site design, and usability. Beginning in February 2006, I began working as a contract technical writer. Unfortunately, this doesn't provide me with steady work. So, several months ago, I decided to create a View Nancy Freehafer's profile on LinkedIn. Feel free to visit if you want to find out more about me.

The hobby that takes up almost all of my free time is genealogy. Up until about 2003, I volunteered at the local Family History Center in Charlotte, NC. I have been researching my family history for the past 15 years. Many of my paternal ancestors come from Berks, Schuylkill, and Lancaster counties in Pennsylvania. And, many of them date back to or earlier than the Revolutionary War period. Some of the names that I am researching are: Freehafer/Frehafer/Frickhöffer/Frickhöfer, Geier/Geyer, Koch, Arthur, Petry/Petrie, Moyer/Meyer, Rieser, Styer/Steuer, Foreman/Fuhrman, Yohn, and Lacy/Lacey. I posted some of my genealogy on my personal site.
