Henry W. Kratz

Henry W. Kratz, Montgomery county, was born in Perkiomen township in said county, July 31, 1834; moved to Trappe, Montgomery county, with his parents in 1840; continued to reside there until April, 1889, when he became a resident of Norristown; was educated in the public schools and at Washington Hall Collegiate Institute, at Trappe; was a public school teacher for seventeen years, and a tutor one year in said Washington Hall Collegiate Institute; served as justice of the peace, surveyor and conveyancer from 1862 to 1882; acted as transcribing clerk in the Senate of Pennsylvania during the sessions of 1866 and 1867; was elected a member of the board of directors of Ursinus College, Montgomery county in 1868, and chosen president of that body in 1873, and still holds that position; is president of the National Bank of Schwenksville and was one of its founders; was recorder of deeds of Montgomery county from 1882 to 1885, and elected by a Republican majority of 479 when the county was Democratic; was twice chairman of the Republican County Committee; was a member of the State board of Agriculture for six years; is a member of the Montgomery County Historical Society; is a member of the board of managers of the Perkiomen and Reading Turnpike Company; by occupation is a conveyancer, real estate and insurance agent, and has had extensive experience in settling estates, serving as trustee and guardian.
