Burials at First Presbyterian Cemetery, Norristown
The cemetery is located at 113 Airy St., Norristown, PA 19401.
Circa the 1950s, the church Trustees realized that parking was a major problem in downtown Norristown. Because the cemetery had not been used for some time, they decided to pave over the cemetery and create a small parking lot on the church property. When they did this, they removed the stones but left the remains in the ground. They erected a large stone, and placed a plaque on it listing all the names of the people who were buried in that cemetery, along with the year that they died, if it was known. These names appear in the following table. A list of Civil War veterans follows the table.
The memorial stone reads: "Erected by the Trustees of the First Presbyterian Church at Norristown, Pennsylvania to the glory of God in loving memory of those who were buried in this place and whose names appear on this plaque." Included are verses from the King James Bible; 1 Thes. 4:13-14, 18 and John 14:18-19.
The actual records are housed with the Philadelphia Presbytery.
