Last Will and Testament of Jonathan Gilbert

Cheltenham Twp., Montgomery Co., PA

Proved April 22, 1809

I Jonathan Gilbert of Cheltenham Township in the County of Montgomery in the State of Pennsylvania, Yeoman, do herby make my last Will and Testament as follows, that is to say, First, my Will is that all my just Debts and funeral Expences be fully paid and discharged. I give and bequeath unto my dear Wife Dedimiah Gilbert, for her own proper use and disposal, my best feather Bed, Bedstead and Bed Clothes thereunto belonging, a Chest of Drawers, six Chairs and as much more Furniture as will be necessary for her to furnish a Room sufficient for her to keep House.

I also give and bequeath to my dear Wife the sum of Thirty Pounds, to be paid to her as soon as conveniently may be after my decease.

I also give and bequeath to my dear Wife the sum of Forty eight Pounds yearly during the term of her natural life, to be paid to her in half yearly payments, out of my Messuage and Plantation whereon I now dwell, for and during that time.

I will and order my Executors to sell and dispose of, for the best price that can be had and obtained for the same, as soon as conveniently may be after my decease, All that my Messuage or Tenement and Plantation or Tract of Land thereunto belonging, whereon I now dwell, situate in Cheltenham Township aforesesaid, (which I purchased of the Execurtors of Isaac Potts deceased, by Indenture of the first day of April A.D. 1805, recorded at Norristown in Deed Book No. 21 Page 243) called "Twickenham," bounded by Lands of Thomas Webster, matthew Tyson and Others, containing Two hundred Acres and one hundred Perches, together with all and singular other the Buildings, Improvements, Rights, Members and Appurtenances whatsoever thereunto belonging, and appertaining, and upon such sale, I do hereby authorize and empower my Executors to grant, convey and assure the same, to the Purchaser or Purchasers thereof his, her, or their Heirs and Assigns forever.

I also will and order my Executors to sell and dispose of the residue of my personal Estate not herein before given to my Wife. All and singular the monies arising from the sales of my real and personal Estates, and all other my Monies, Credits and Estate whatsoever, (except what I have given to my Wife) after payment of my just Debts, I give and bequeath the same to my six Children John Gilbert, Charles Gilbert, Jesse Gilbert, Israel Gilbert, Jonathan Gilbert and William Gilbert, to be equally divided amongst them part and share alike.

The sum of Eight hundred Pounds being the Principal of the said yearly payment of Forty eight Pounds to my Wife, must nevertheless remain in my real Estate during her life, and be equally divided amongst my Children on her death as aforesaid, or their heirs in case of any of them being then dead.

I nominate constitute and appoint my Sons John Gilbert, Jesse Gilbert and Charles Gilbert, Executors of this my last will and Testament, hereby revoking all other and former Wills by me at any time heretofore made.

In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my Hands and Seal at Cheltenham aforesaid, the twenty seventh Day of the Seventh Month, July in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and eight.
