200 Yergers Meet at Ringing Rocks

Gathering Next Year on Second Saturday in August William E. Yerger, Aged 80, Oldest Member in Attendance.

Two hundred members of the Yerger Family Association, the descendants of Velt, Martin, Peter and George Yerger, four brothers who came to America from Anspach, Bavaria, Germany, about 1722, and settled in New Hanover Township, assembled at Ringing Rocks Park, yesterday in the thirteenth annual reunion. A pleasant day was spent by all the members of the Association until about 3:30 when the rain scattered the family and many, fearing the rain would become heavier, packed up their belongings and took the first trolley car for home.

The members of the Association began to arrive at the park during the morning hours and spent a pleasant time in renewing acquaintances, and at noon all enjoyed a family dinner. A short business meeting was held in the afternoon at two o’clock. Howard Swartz, of Reading, presided in the absence of the president, Rev. Orlando S. Yerger, of Long Valley, NJ, who was unable to attend. Rev. William Kachel, of Pottstown led the Association in prayer.

The report of the history of the family was given by historian, Homer Dowlin, of Philadelphia. It was announced that the oldest member of the family present was William E. Yerger, of Pottstown, aged 80. The youngest member present was Richard Donald Henricks, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willis C. Henricks, 417 West street, Pottstown, who was eight weeks old.
