HIGH PRICE PAID FOR BURDAN PLANT

Phila. Banker Announces Price Approximately $1,500,00.

TRIBUTE TO FIRM HEAD

Pottstown Factory Coveted by Many Concerns Because of Its Success – Corporation Plans Further Expansion

P. M. Chandler of the banking firm of Chandler Bros. Philadelphia and New York, on Saturday made public the purchase price of the Burdan Bros., Inc., local plant and distributing stations at Wilmington, Reading, Lebanon and Harrisburg, stating that approximately $1,500,000 was paid by the United States Dairy Products Corporation. The bankers are backers of the United States Dairy Products corporation and it is the intention of the latter concern to further expand by the purchase of other ice cream manufacturing plants and dairies. It is reported that the Burdan plant, etc., has been coveted for some years by other concerns because of its presence due to its excellent management and the excellent worth of its product.

Burdan’s ice cream is known throughout the whole eastern part of Pennsylvania, while its sale on railroad trains has made it popular with thousands of travelers. It is considered a splendid tribute to C. C. Burdan, president of Burdan Bros., Inc., that he has been made both a director in the United States Dairy Products Corporation as well as manager of all plants of the company. No deal in this ice cream manufacturing business has excited such interest as have the purchase of the Burdan plant, etc., which will be operated by the new company as a subsidiary for ten years, retaining the name that has made the local ice cream famous.
