May be buried at Union Cemetery in Niantic, PA. He married Alice Hanna Bitting. His middle name might have been Kulp, possibly his mother's maiden name. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Registered surname(s): Bookhammer, Buchhammer, Buckhammer
Comments: Beginning at least with the inclusion of Johan Buchhammer on a "LIST OF FORRIGNERS IMPORTED IN THE SHIP EDINBURG,JAMES RUSSEL, MASTER, FROM ROTTERDAM, LAST FROM PORTSMOUTH, ENGLAND. QUALIFIED SEPT. 15, 1749," members of this family are found in various records from Montgomery and Philadelphia counties up to the present time. There are branches of the Bookhammer family in Delaware, Florida, California, and elsewhere; although the greatest numbers are still to be found in Pennsylvania (but now spread throughout the state). I believe most, if not all, of these Bookhammers descend from the Bookhammers of Eastern Pennsylvania -- but so far I have not been able to prove it. One caution is that there are also Berkheimer/Berkhammer families, but I believe these to be unrelated to Bookhammers, although crossover is certainly possible. (Berkheim = "Birch tree village"; Buchheim = "Beech tree village" ... a "hammer" ending instead of "heimer" reflects the use of an Austro-Bavarian dialect.)
